Flying over what looked like an abandoned mansion near Cayambe the other day turned out to be quite the news. It's actually part of an almost 500 year old "Hacienda". Honestly, the more of Ecuador I see, the more I fall in love with my country.
After some research I learned the mansion is actually a vacation home that hosted many important people in the last century. The current owners tried turning it into a five-star hotel, but ran out of money. It's unclear what it is now, but apparently they won't give any tours to the public.
As soon as I posted some of these photos on Instagram, I got lots of DM's from different people asking either where it was, or telling me they had been there - and what their experience was like!
Many said it's spooky, mainly because of the humidity and darkness and mixture of styles found inside. One person sent me a video of himself getting stuck on a lizard type gargoyle thing when it was open to the public. Other photos show it could be an amazing event space. Hopefully the government buys it and preserves this jewel.
According to Wikipedia, it has seven different architectural styles, a church, a Neoclassical style swimming pool, over 50 rooms and 60 restrooms. I can't wait to drive there and see what it's like up close myself!
